Couture estivale / Summer sewing

 Comme pour beaucoup, le confinement a été pour moi l’occasion de progresser en couture. Voici mes dernières réalisations qui sont des copies de certains de mes vêtements. 

Like many people, I have improved my sewing skills during confinement. Here are my latest projects which are copies of some of my clothes.

These photos were taken by my daughter in the field next to my house 😁

Tuto patchwork : coudre à la main un carré log cabin vintage / Handsewing a vintage log cabin block

Avertissement : cette méthode ne conviendra pas aux personnes qui aiment la symétrie ;-D

Rien n'est mesuré précisément et l'objectif est justement d'obtenir un carré un peu irrégulier pour un effet vintage !

Warning : people who love and need precision won't like this technique because it is precisely made to get a vintage and shabby effect !

You will need : dark and light colored strips fabric of about 1.5 cm width, some sewing thread and a rather thin needle, a square of thin fabric on which you will sew the stripes that must be the size of  the block you want to make (so I'm recycling an old fabric and my block will be 15x15 cm) and a  small square of fabric that will be the center of the log cabin block.

Vous aurez besoin de bandes de tissus claires et foncées de environ 1.5 cm de large, du fil à coudre, une aiguille assez fine, un carré de tissu fin sur lequel vous allez coudre vos bandes de tissus au dimension du block que vous souhaitez faire (moi je recycle un vieux tissu et mon block mesure 15x15 cm) et une petit carré de tissus qui sera le centre de votre block.

Pin the square in the centre of the block (I will sew on the wrong side of the fabric so that the design won't show through the light-colored strips )

Epinglez le petit carré au centre de votre grand carré (je vais coudre sur l'envers de mon tissus pour que les motifs ne soient pas visibles a travers les bandes claires)

Place a light colored strip on the wrong side along the border and the right corner of the square.

Posez une bande de tissu clair à l'envers sur le carré central le long du coin supérieur droit et du bord supérieur

Start sewing little running stitches from the right hand corner of the little square ...

Commencez à coudre au point avant en partant du coin supérieur droit....

...to the left hand corner where you will make one or two back stitches to block the thread.

...jusqu'au coin supérieur gauche où vous ferez un ou deux point arrières pour bloquer le fil.

Cut the remaining bit of strip of fabric along the border of the square...

Coupez le reste de la bande de tissu le long du bord gauche du carré central...

...raise the strip you have just sewn and flatten the seam with you nail.

...soulevez la bande de tissu que vous venez de coudre et aplatissez la couture avec votre ongle.

Turn the block clockwise and place another strip of light colored fabric along the border.

Tournez le block dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre et positionnez une autre bande de tissu clair le long du bord comme précédemment.

Your thread will be under the strip so go through the two layers of fabric to start your seam in the right-hand corner and sew the same way as the first strip.

Votre fil va se trouver sous la bande précédente donc vous devrez traverser les deux épaisseurs de tissus pour commencer votre couture dans le coin supérieur droit et cousez jusqu'au coin gauche comme pour la bande précédente.

When you have raised and nail-ironed the second light-colored strip, turn your block clockwise and get ready to sew a dark colored strip...

Quand vous aurez cousu et rabattu votre deuxième bande de tissus clair tournez votre block d'un quart de tour et préparez-vous à coudre une bande de tissu foncé...

 

..starting from under the fabric as before.

...en partant du dessous comme précédemment.

Turn your block again and add a second dark colored strip and you will have finished you first round.

Tournez encore votre block et ajoutez une deuxième bande de tissu foncé et vous aurez fini votre premier tour.

Add another round still going clockwise being careful to use two light colored strips followed by two dark colored strip to get a block that will be dark colored on one half and light colored on the other.

Ajoutez un autre tour en tournant votre block toujours dans le sens des aiguilles d'un montre en faisant bien attention d'utiliser deux bandes de tissus clairs suivies de deux bandes de tissus foncés pour obtenir un block avec une moitié foncée et une autre claire.

Go on this way until you reach the borders of the block and don't worry if your strips are a bit bigger than the block, you can trim the excess off after ironing.

Continuez ainsi jusqu'à atteindre les bords du block. Ne vous inquiétez pas si vos bandes de tissu dépassent du tissus qui sert de support, il sera facile de couper ce qui est en trop une fois le block repassé.

et voilà !

As you can see on the photo my block isn't perfectly symmetrical but it has the right dimensions for the final assembling.

With this technique you can recycle many different fabric that only need to me about the same thickness like worn out shirts or pillowcases !

Now you only need to decide about your final layout and you can find examples here and there. 

Comme vous le voyez sur la photo mon block n'est pas tout a fait symétrique mais cela ne l'empêche pas d'être aux bonnes dimensions pour l'assemblage !

L'avantage de cette technique est que l'on peut recycler tous les tissus qui sont a peu près de même épaisseur y compris les chemises ou les taies d'oreiller usées !

Il ne vous reste plus qu'à partir en promenade sur le web pour décider de votre assemblage final, comme ICI  et  LA. 

Log Cabin Barn Raising

A very soothing and addictive activity....

La Liseuse

Fragonard se retourne sûrement dans sa tombe en voyant que son tableau est probablement un de ceux qui été le plus brodé en canevas... mais je n'ai pas eu de mal à en trouver deux exemplaires en brocante pour me faire une nouveau sac à bazard-tricot-broderie en recyclant deux vieilles ceinture de Mr Simplyfil !

Fragonard must be turning over in his grave when he sees that his painting is probably the most embroidered but I found two of them in a brocante to make myself a new bag. I also recycled two old belts from Mr Simplyfil for the handles !

Petite couture / Little sewing

Ma petite machine à coudre est enfin réparée et j'ai monté mes deux broderies aux ruban en un petit sac qui gardera mes herbes sèches cet hiver :
My little sewing machine is finally repaired and I was able to sew my two embroideries to make a little bag to keep my dry herbs next winter : 

Comme vous pouvez le voir mon jardin est très vert et malgré les grosses pluies de ces dernières semaines de jolies petites poires poussent dans l'arbre que j'ai utilisé pour accrocher mon petit sac : 

As you can see my garden is very green and despite the heavy rain of the last weeks some lovely pears are growing in the tree I used to hand my bag for the photos :

Coussin brodé / Embroidered cushion

Assemblage de tissus en coton teinté en éco-print et broderie en cordonnet rouge.

Assembling of different eco-printed coton canvasses and bird embroidered with red cotton cord

Assemblage de morceaux de soie teintés "maison" appliqués sur une toile coton pour une plus grande solidité.

Assembling of home-dyed silk squares sewn on a coton canvas to strenghten the whole.

Tuto pique-aiguilles champignon / Tuto mushroom pinkeep

Afin de vous faire partager ma champignonite automnale,voici un tuto pour réaliser un pique-aiguille en forme de champignon :

To share with you my addiction to making mushroom, I made this tutorial to show you how to make a mushroom pinkeep :

Matériel pour le champignon : 

une pique à brochette

une rondelle de bouchon en liège

deux disques (de 15 et 10 cm de diamètre)
et un rectangle (10 cm x 6 cm) en laine bouillie ou feutrine

du rembourrage

fil et aiguilles à coudre

de la colle

For the mushroom you will need : 

a skewer

a slice of cork

two circles (one 15 cm and the other one of 10 cm of diameter)
and one rectangle (of 10 cm x 6 cm) of wool or felt

some filling

thread and needle

some glue

Matériel pour le socle : 

un couvercle de pot de confiture

deux bouchons en liège coupés en rondelles

de la colle

deux disques (1 de la dimension exacte du couvercle
 et l'autre de 1 cm de plus ) en laine bouillie ou feutrine

For the base you will need : 

a jar lid

two corks cut in about 5 or 6 slices

some glue

two circles of wool or felt (1 of the exact size of the lid 
and the other one about 1 cm bigger than the lid)

Le champignon /the mushroom

Le grand cercle formera le dessus du champignon et le petit le dessous. Découper une petite ouverture centrale dans ce petit cercle.

The big circle will be the top of the mushroom and the smaller one will be under. Cut a small hole in the middle of this circle.

Froncer le bord du grand cercle pour l'adapter à la dimension du petit et les assembler en faisant un point de surfil.

Plait lightly the edge of the big circle to make it fit the size of the smaller one and sew them together with an overcasting stitch.

Coudre le rectangle de façon à former un tube qui sera le pied du champignon.

Sew the rectangle to form a tube that will be the stem of the mushroom.

Rembourrer ce tube en y insérant la pique à brochette que vous aurez recoupée à la dimension du pied (plus 2 cm) et collez-y une rondelle de bouchon qui permettra à la pique de ne pas transpercer le chapeau du champignon.

Stuff this tube and insert in it the skewer that must be cut to fit the size of the stem (plus 2 cm) and glue on the top of it a slice of cork that will prevent it from spiking through the cap of the mushroom.

Insérer cette partie dans le chapeau rembourré et coudre à point invisible. 

Insert this part in the stuffed cap and sew with invisible stitch.

Le socle/the base

Coller dans le couvercle les rondelles de bouchon en prenant soin d'en avoir une un peu plus haute que les autres pour y piquer le champignon de façon solide.

Glue the slices of cork in the lid and take care to have on of these slices thicker than the others to insert the skewer firmly in it.

Coller le petit cercle de laine ou feutrine sous le couvercle.

Glue the smaller circle of wool of felt under the lid.

Répérer avec une aiguille l'endroit exact ou vous planterez votre champignon.

Mark with a needle the exact place where you will insert the skewer of the mushroom.

 Coudre le grand disque sur le petit en faisant un point de surfil tout autour du couvercle.

Sew the bigger circle on the smaller all around the lid with an overcasting stitch

 Et voilà ! Done! 

 Planter le champignon à l'emplacement prévu et coudre le bas du tube à points invisibles.

Insert the skewer of the mushroom in the right place and sew the bottom of the tube with invisible stitches

Et voilà !

Tah dah!

Vous prendrez bien une tasse de .... ? / Would you like a cup of.....?

Après avoir traîné sur Pinterest  ici, je me suis dit que moi aussi je me ferait bien une petite tasse...en tissus. Et après une petite maquette vite faite en papier, je me suis lancée !

One day I was exploring this, I realized that I would love to make a fabric cup..so I tried the pattern with paper and then...It was done ! 

Bon elle n'est pas parfaite mais c'est une bonne première. La prochaine sera sans doute brodée ;-)

Well it is not perfect, but it's my first one and I think the next cup will be embroydered:-)

Il a profité de la pluie pour naître dans la campagne Sarthoise....

He was born in the Sarthe countryside thanks to the rain....

mais il est resté petit...

but he remained small...

Il est allé voir son grand frère...

He went to the see his big brother...

Puis il est parti vivre en ville dans le monde magique de Nathalie !

And finally he went to live in town, in the magical world of Nathalie !
